Integrating Soil Biodiversity into Ecosystem Services

SOB4ES at the EU Missions Soil Week in Madrid, Spain

On November 21-23, the SOB4ES project was represented during the EU Mission Soil Week leading the transition towards healthy soils in Madrid, Spain!

The annual event was organised by the European Commission and Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI) in the context of the Mission Soil, together with the EU funded project PREPSOIL and the Joint Research Centre - EU Soil Observatory (EUSO) and aims at promoting the Horizon Europe Mission, 'A Soil Deal for Europe' to raise awareness on soil health and actions to protect and restore European soils.

During a breakout session on Soil Biodiversity, chaired by consortium partner Prof. Wim van der Putten (Netherlands Institute of Ecology of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences), Prof. Maria J.I. Briones (University of Vigo) gave a presentation on SOB4ES - Spotlight soil biodiversity's role in ecosystems.

In addition, Prof. Maria J.I. Briones was part of the panel discussion in the plenary session on Soil monitoring and indicators, during which questions from the public were addressed.
